What are three words that best describe your business?

Chakrubs uses the tagline, “Energize. Sensitize. Realize.” I believe these three words describe what happens when you devote yourself to a practice with Chakrubs.

What are 3 words that best describe you?

Any descriptive word will be accurate as I embody it all.

When you started Chakrubs, crystals in the form of pleasure objects were relatively rare. What first gave you the idea that women needed a Chakrub?

What first gave me the idea that women needed Chakrubs was my own need for a Chakrub. It was born out of necessity for myself. Even though the idea was mocked by many of my peers as well as people in the spiritual community, combining crystal healing and intentional self-pleasure was how I was able to release many traumas born from lack of boundaries, education, and self-awareness. I felt deep in my heart that if this was helping me it would help others - as I believe we are all connected.  

Can you describe your artistic process?

As I hinted above, my creative process has a lot to do with first examining myself and whatever is preventing me from feeling fulfilled spiritually, emotionally, or physically. Sometimes what I create has to do with a statement I feel needs to be expressed, for example, The Shadow Line which is kink-inspired and made from black obsidian was created because I wanted to solidify the idea that anything is sacred when you give it the attention that it is. The Forest Line, which is made from wood and botanicals, was created because I wanted to awaken the part of ourselves that believed in fantasy as children as well as create sexual objects that infused energy of the trees and plants into them which had never quite been done before.

There are many companies now that produce crystals for sex and sexual healing. How do you keep ahead of the game?

A quote my friend told me was, “If you want to beat the competition, don’t be in a competition.” I am not trying to stay ahead of any game. I am listening to my customers and community about what is needed, and I respond with different products or platforms that I think will be the most helpful for them. It is an amazing feeling that what started out as an idea that was mocked by so many has now turned into something that more people are understanding - and even looking at as a smart business move to get involved in.  

I’ve read a lot about the obstacles faced by women who are building companies aimed at female pleasure. What’s been the most difficult obstacle you’ve had to overcome?

We have been denied funding because we are sexual-wellness oriented. We are also not able to promote our business through regular channels such as Facebook/Instagram.

I’ve had women ASK me why they’d use crystals over vibrators. What do you say to this?

Pleasure is great. It’s necessary. It’s a gift we can give ourselves. But I think the reason why sometimes people choose to work with Chakrubs rather than traditional sex toys is because we crave different layers to our pleasure that include an atmosphere of self-care, emotional support, and spiritual attunement (energize, sensitize, realize). After a session with a Chakrub, you don’t typically want to shove it away in your bedside table. You want to rest and indulge in the energy you just created, hold the crystal to your heart, admire its beauty as a reflection of your own. Sometimes “getting off” is all we want, but sometimes being “tuned in” is what we need.

What’s been your most surprising discovery since starting Chakrubs?

It surprises me again and again how shame surrounding sexuality continues to envelope our society. With the environment created by Chakrubs I’m around people who are very open, non-judgemental, and dedicated to evolving their ideas around sexuality, but stepping outside of this bubble is always a bit of a shock. I feel that in so many ways we as a society have grown, but there is still so much to go.

What’s your favourite creation and why?

My book, Crystal Healing & Sacred Pleasure is such a special project to me. It shares all the philosophies behind Chakrubs that had been developed over the years, and was a loving effort of everyone on our small but mighty team. It is such a humble experience to see people posting photos of the book or quotes from it.

What are you currently working on?

Chakrubs is launching a workshop series that will be a monthly event in Los Angeles. We are also working on two new books that outline methods for using Chakrubs and yoni eggs.
